This app is completely changing the way I use my earnings and has completely remapped the way I process my finances. I used to just spend money on whatever, whenever and judge how I was doing mostly on feel. YNAB is a simple tool that does something incredibly well, and I wish more apps did the same in other areas of my life.

I have been using YNAB for a few years now and I cannot imagine budgeting without it. The only thing that bothers me is when I am entering a transaction the keyboard covers the “not field” so I cannot see what I am typing. Not sure if that is an iOS issue or YNAB

This is the only budgeting tool I need! It’s great for the self-employed!
  • Great app! Just needs portrait support on iPad.

This is an excellent app. The iPad support needs work though. Portrait mode needs to be supported. It’s jarring to switch between another app and YNAB while in portrait mode, which forces you to turn your iPad to a landscape orientation.

** Updated Review I decided to try the web version and it took several tries for bank connectivity to work but it finally did so I decided to try it for a new more days using the web app as the primary interface. As I poked around it seemed very powerful yet there was a learning curve. I took the free online classes and I'm 100% sold. YNAB is an incredible budgetting app and there's nothing else like it. I've tried them all. The iOS app now also make total sense. My recommendation - stick with it and make sure you attend the free online classes - multiple times! Else you could get frustrated not knowing how to use the features and the intended mindset and approach. ** Original Review App looked promising but never got to use it. Took 5 tries to have one credit card account added And the other (BOA) just wouldn't add and it kept complaining about the credentials which were valid and work on the website. So this was a non starter. Every other app I've used (ProsrerDaily, Dashflow, PersonalCapital, Mint etc) connected to the bank immediately, and brought in historical transactions from the past month or two.

I've been using YNAB over six years. In the midst of a divorce, my finances and my life were a tangled mess. I had over 15 credit cards and 49k in debt. I stumbled across Jesse's whiteborad wednesdays and those YouTube videos saved me. Jesse exudes pragmatic simplicity. Very slowly, my eyes were opened. With patience, hard work, better choices, I gradually crawled out of the deep hole I'd dug myself into. I have stayed YNAB through its many iterations. It was great to start with and its gotten better. So have I! I kept informed through the inline classes. I love the current phone app. I keep track of my budgets and its fun to watch my savings grow. For 2017, my goal $3000 in cash savings is close to reality. I going to make it!! Without suffering. Food on the table. I go out. I have plenty to wear. Whats different is the choices I make. Sometimes a walk in the park suffices over a costly movie. Books from the library. Errands on the bike vs. car gas. My spending choices are more thoughtful, stop impulse buying. Wait a day. Its a real adventure or more like a game. Whats the best way to make this $12 last? cool! Today I have 1 credit card and used as a cash card because its more secure online than a debit card. Today I live within my means and I am proud of my financial security. YNAB is no ordinary budget tool. Its a real-life-finance-changer. I have philosophically shifted the way I spend my money. It was not easy and took alot of work and discipline. YNAB helped me to get honest in my motives and financial choices. I learned that there is a tangible relationship between my values and the choices I make with spending.

Let me start by saying that managing my money is my worst nightmare. I just hate it. YNAB is not just an app, it’s a philosophy and a system. While YNAB hasn’t yet cured me of my terrible habits, it’s gotten me through very tight situations. Plus the customer service is fantastic, the app keeps getting better and better, and the whole thing is done with a sense of humor. Love it.

It’ll change yours too. Helped me control my finances and understand them much more deeply. Beautiful, user friendly interface. Helped me get out of thousands of dollars of debt, and shows you reports as well, which makes you want to keep going and going. Leaves you making better financial decisions. The best!!
  • New app is a massive improvement

I had started using YNAB but ended up losing the habit because there would be times when a purchase made on the go couldn’t fit into any existing categories I had set up on the web app, and I had no way of changing things until I had long lost track of purchases. Now, the new app lets me do literally everything I used to have to go on my computer to do, and it does so in a beautiful, easy-to-use package. With the most recent update, the app went from feeling 8 years outdated and nearly unusable to one of the best-designed apps on my phone. I used to have to apologize for it - “if you can get over the outdated app, the system works really well” - and now I can wholeheartedly recommend the YNAB system to people who ask for help with budgeting. Don’t fall for the convenience of automated budget tracking with other apps! YNAB’s manual system forces you to pay attention to the consequences of every single purchase. The learning curve is difficult at first, and it does take an hour or two to get everything set up. But the payoff is literal - managing my money tightly with YNAB lets me spend more comfortably by making sure I have what I need for expenses and savings. This is hands-down the best budgeting system available.
  • Indispensable Budgeting Tool!

YNAB has been indispensable in our day-to-day spending. We continue to see great value from an always up-to-date, high-level view of our finances. Being able to clearly see where our money is going and how much we are able to save each month is the true power of this system. With the new, web-based YNAB, budgeting has gotten even easier with direct import, goals, and easy category-to-category transfers. I was not on board with the subscription model at first, but seeing what they have been able to do with this product along with the constant stream of updates and bug fixes, I would say they have won me over.
