  • App as bad as website

    Well, I’ve given them my credit card over and over and logged in to PayPal (and they kept signing me up for a different service once PayPal popped up, I just wanted audiobooks only) and then it routes me back to the page showing no payment method on file. I can’t even PAY these people. My card keeps getting declined for no reason, and this is happening on the app AND their website. It’s just not worth it. maybe I’ll hear from support but based on other reviews now I have to worry about my card being charged extensively for a service I didn’t want. They keep trying to force me to get the whole enchilada at $24.95 even though I keep clicking “audiobooks only” for $14.95. And wait! There more! The 30 day trial magically becomes 14 once you’ve entered everything and only if you have the most expensive package. I even tried to sign up for the one year contract with the tablet bundle.......couldn’t even get my payment info in. I’m going to the Better Business Bureau if I get charged. Seriously.

    I initially read the reviews and felt the company was being given a hard time by impatient users, it sounds like a great service, I wanted to try it and be patient. After a month, I canceled and have the following objections: * The app is not only buggy, it probably should have not been released yet. Each time you load it, anything can happen, it might crash, log you out, or at the very least, reset your settings * UX is terrible, each time you run the app you will be taken into a mess, requires multiple taps to get to the book that you were listening to * Settings are reset each time you open the app, I think this is intentional. I listen on 1.5x speed as I get bored otherwise. It goes against their business model, the more you listen, the more they have to pay, so they insist on resetting the settings each time (very annoying) * I signed up for a trial, listening to a book just stopped... apparently the trial just meant you can sample books. I then signed up for the paid subscription, but when I canceled, my subscription ended on the day I started the trial, not when I paid (even though I was not able to use it properly during the trial) * The app will randomly show you a message to listen to other books while you're listening. This will stop the playback. You have to back to the app, answer "no", to continue. Imagine how nice this is while running. * Using the headset controls on an iPhone works 30% of the time. More often than not, if you want to pause, your iPhone will start playing your music. Then you have to go back to the app, tap 50 times get back to your book (oh, and remember to change your settings, they were reset) I only listed the major issues, I could probably write a booklet listing all issues. Great idea, but I don't think their business model works, it goes against good customer experience. And the app simply wasn't ready for primetime, maybe another three months worth of testing? I would avoid

    The trial is very limited you can’t listen to a whole audio book so why have a 30 day trial and the the special offer doesn’t include audio books but they don’t tell you that until you’ve paid them.
  • Not worth $20 a month

    Very limited in audiobooks it offers. Sounded good at first...$20 a month for unlimited audiobooks. But only found a handful that I actually wanted to listen to. Searched for ones I wanted, but those were not offered. I take that back, a couple of them were offered. But they were in Russian or German. *response to playster* I DID email you. Never got a response.
  • Decent amount of books but terrible app.

    They have a good library of books available, but not worth the money because you can’t finish one. The app glitches constantly, will not keep your place in an audiobook, books appear and disappear at random. You can start a book one day and the next it can’t be found or will not play even if you already downloaded it. Very frustrating app. I thought it would save me some money from what I have been spending on other audiobook apps but it’s not worth it. Stick with Audible, they have a great app and customer service.

    User experience on this app is clunky and frustrating. Finding books is a nightmare and the constant drops of the audio would be enough to never use it again. But if you are hooked on audio books you know how expensive it can get and this is the best price.
  • Pathetic execution of a good idea

    I really hoped this app could stand up to the other established audiobook apps, but these guys made a mockery of their app. Seems like the developers have not figured out basic integration with iOS. I waited patiently for 6 months to see any improvement but finally got out of it. And yes, be careful, no matter which option you choose look at your credit card statement, these guys may be charging you the amount for their highest tier.

    This may be my first App Store review, or at least the first in many, many years - and that tidbit alone speaks volumes even without my actual review. I am an audiobook junkie. I've fallen asleep to an audiobook every night for years - I got hooked on the Twilight series when it initially came out and refuse to give up my love affair with my bedtime stories. Audible can get expensive when you listen to multiple audiobooks within a week, and this kept popping up in ads so I figured "Why not?" They advertised a free MONTH trial, so I was pretty excited to listen to as many books as I wanted without forking over hundreds of dollars to feed my addiction. So then I downloaded the app. And it was all downhill from there. My month long trial? I was charged after 2 weeks. And my excitement over all of those audiobooks I thought I'd get to enjoy during that trial? Such an underwhelming, upsetting experience. Who wants to listen to a chapter or two of an audiobook JUST to hear you have to purchase the membership to hear the rest... all the while you're on a "trial"? Pointless. Stoopid. Annoying. Just a few words that come to mind! The audiobook player? Faulty at best. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to stop "refreshing" and actually PLAY after I hit the play button. It's not a quick or enjoyable task to start listening and doesn't even compare to Audible's pain-free interface. Since I already paid for my month and after reading through the other reviews there's no point in trying to get my money back, as it seems customer service isn't helpful. I'll finish my month out and be sure to cancel LONG before I can be charged again. What a waste!
  • Beware: This App is a Scam!

    Once again, I’ve been locked out of my Playster account because their faulty algorithm flagged my account. This happened previously and I was forced to open a second account. Their customer service is appalling and they do not actually take the time to read a complaint. This app is a SCAM and it’s downright FRAUDULENT to deny customers access to their accounts after they have paid for the products (in my case audiobooks). I have never used my account inappropriately and I’ve only ever logged in with the same device, my iPhone. If this issue does not get resolved, I’m going to leave loud and aggressive complaints on every website that I can. Until Playster gets their algorithm problem fixed and until their staff enrolls in Customer Service 101, I do NOT recommend this app. Like other reviewers, I had hoped to replace my $300+ monthly Audible subscription with Playster. The biggest problem I have with this app is that it has locked me out twice now, citing a potential violation of the fair use policy. I suspect this is because I listen to audiobooks nearly all day long as I work. Unfortunately, there is no telephone number to reach customer service and it takes 10 days to get an emailed response. It's awfully inconvenient to be in the middle of a great book when you become locked out of your account and then told it will take 10 days to resolve the issue. To add insult to injury, the customer service team does not make the effort to actually read the complaint! I've only listened to Playster on one device. I don't make copies of their stories. I don't use it commercially. There is simply no good reason for my account to be flagged twice. I never had this kind of problem with Audible. As much as I'd love to save money by using Playster, the app is so unreliable and the customer service so terrible that I feel I have no choice but to return to the expensive Audible app. In addition to getting locked out of my account for no reason, this app falls short in its search functions. This app could be so great if only the developer spent more time streamlining the search function and correcting the algorithm that inappropriately flags accounts for fair use.
  • Playster app is a hunk of garbage

    Positives: 1 star for the amount of audio book titles playster has. I tried premium for a month but the other media is basically garbage. Nothing you couldn’t get for free on Spotify or elsewhere free in the internet. Negatives: Worst app I’ve ever had to pay for. It’s clunky, lagging, and frequently loses progress of where you are in the book, loses connection for no reason when I’m hooked up to good WiFi, shuts down or causes my phone to crash. I don’t understand how it’s this bad, seriously. The titles are great but the app is so bad that it isn’t worth the 15 per month- I’m cancelling and switching to audible because the platform is 200x better and you can basically get most of the same titles.
