  • Bait and switch?

    I was thrilled at first because I was able to sign up for unlimited books and audiobooks for $9.99 a month. Then they made it two separate plans for books and audiobooks, and the price for both would have been more than double. The way I found out was that the app stated that my service had been discontinued and did I want to renew? When I said yes it signed me up for an all media plan for $32.99 a month. So I looked for a way to change the plan to just audiobooks. There was no link to do so. Chat with their support was no help. Then I got an email saying to confirm my subscription and that’s where I got an option to change the plan. BUT the prices were much higher and books and audiobooks were no longer on one plan. Not only that but the prices through itunes are higher than what is listed on their site. The interface has always been clunky and the selection is kinda small, but it was good enough under the original terms I signed up for. It isn’t worth the new price or the hassle at all. I canceled. I’m very disappointed in what started out as a good thing.

    This company has the worse customer service I have ever encountered. I thought I would give their service a try, even after reading reviews like this one I'm writing. I lasted less than 24 hours with them and pulled the plug. Tried to cancel, was offered a great deal for 90 days, okay I thought I'll try that. Issues started after that. Contact their so called customer service. Got canned responses and zero help. Huge run around. Finally opted to cancel for good. Sad, I had high hopes for the service. Yet their bait-and-switch tactics turned me off. Don't be a sucker, skip this and save yourself the headaches!
  • Cheap, trick version of Audible.

    The idea is good: unlimited audiobooks for the same price as audible's one book-- and you get a month free. Except not. Started my month "free" and on day two, my book was cut off with an hour left and I was told that on the month-long trial, I cannot finish a book without paying. What?? So in essence, I can read LESS than the audible standard In My first month. And you ticked me off at the same time. Also, there's no offline use that I can find. It's always glitching on me and I have to restart the app. And it doesn't seem like there's many reading history tools like on audible. I thought this was going to be a Spotify type thing but for audiobooks. Not so much... and really glad I'll be cancelling before I pay. Yikes.
  • Awful app and terrible customer service

    I hoped this app would be an alternative to Audible, on which I am hooked and spend tons each month. It has a fairly good library of offerings BUT that is the only positive. The app has glitches too numerous to mention but suffice it to say it is almost impossible to listen to a book without losing your progress, having to sign in again, finding the book is not readily available, having the audio just quit, having server errors, and finding that some books just will not load at all. Worst of all, I found I could not sign in--it said I already had an account but my password was wrong and then would not let me change it or sign in with Facebook. When I contacted support I was told my account had been cancelled because my credit card had been declined. But there in my card statement was the Playster charge for the month! I wrote back and complained and they re credited my credit card (they say--we'll see) but did not explain why they thought my card had been declined nor had they bothered to write me to ask for alternate payment--they just cancelled me without notice and then of course they were wrong yo cancel me. They obviously had no interest in retaining my business. Do not do business with these discourteous people and their dysfunctional app! You will regret it. Other reviews had warned me and I ignored them to my frustration and sorrow and possible monetary loss if I am not recredited.

Unfortunately, the all-access trial that I tried for 20 days included: Constant crashing Terrible book selection Worse audiobook selection Unheard-of movies, except for BBC selections which can be had for free anyway Audiobooks stop playing after a certain point, at which you are prompted to send your money
  • Advertisement cheaper then billing after trial

    $15 a month is an indulgence $20 is too much, I just wanted an audio book. Going back to audible! Also on the trial you can only listen to 5% of the book!
  • Frustrated!!!

    I am an avid audiobook listener. Playster is a huge draw because I go through more than one or two books a month. I got signed up for my free trial and found the book I had waiting to listen to. As I listened, I had tons of playback errors. The book stops mid sentence and won't play any farther. When it finally decides to play again, it's not even in the right spot. Annoying, but I kept pressing on due to the price and the hope the the app will eventually update and work better. The final straw came as I was listening to my fist audio book on the free trial, I got just short of half way through the book and I got a message I could listen no further until I paid for a subscription... wait, what??? Free trial means free! At least with Audible, you get a WHOLE BOOK free! To finish my book I have to purchase at least the first month, which was already sketchy due to how bad the app is. I'm so frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Beware: This App is a Scam!

    Like other reviewers, I had hoped to replace my $300+ monthly Audible subscription with Playster. The biggest problem I have with this app is that it has locked me out twice now, citing a potential violation of the fair use policy. I suspect this is because I listen to audiobooks nearly all day long as I work. Unfortunately, there is no telephone number to reach customer service and it takes 10 days to get an emailed response. It's awfully inconvenient to be in the middle of a great book when you become locked out of your account and then told it will take 10 days to resolve the issue. To add insult to injury, the customer service team does not make the effort to actually read the complaint! I've only listened to Playster on one device. I don't make copies of their stories. I don't use it commercially. There is simply no good reason for my account to be flagged twice. I never had this kind of problem with Audible. As much as I'd love to save money by using Playster, the app is so unreliable and the customer service so terrible that I feel I have no choice but to return to the expensive Audible app. In addition to getting locked out of my account for no reason, this app falls short in its search functions. This app could be so great if only the developer spent more time streamlining the search function and correcting the algorithm that inappropriately flags accounts for fair use.

    9/19 Update: After being banned from using Playster's service ( see below) I wrote a poor review on site jabber. A Playster representative saw my review and contacted me. He asked that I fill out an appeal form which I did. It was a simple process and consequently my account has been reactivated. Their app still has some bugs that need to be fixed but I am willing to live with them to have access to their fairly large collection of audiobooks! My original review: Everything everyone below has complained about is absolutely true! As if they're horrible app isn't bad enough, Playster flagged my Account telling me that something happened with my account and it looks like I shared a book or did something else illegal. I have never shared or copied a book or done anything besides pay their monthly bill and download books and listen to them but they have had me locked out of my account for 10 days while they "look into it". When I complained, their customer service person even told me it may have been nothing that I did that caused the flag. What a scam!

    The app is absolutely horrible. Can not complete an audio download, will not download a book, the music selection is generic. I signed up for premium and so far REGRET my faith is this company.
