  • Almost there

Ugh. Day One is, on the one hand, one of my favorite apps, and I use it daily. And I’m happy with the subscription model. But every word of my review from when they first introduced the subscription model still applies: no audio recording, no publishing, no web version, and typing still is a frustrating experience compared to typing in other apps. This slow development is increasingly frustrating. My original review: I love Day One and the ability to look back on entries by date and location. I'm happy to pay a subscription model, but hope that means they come through with new features soon, namely audio recording and publishing to a blog (now that they're working on a web version I hope they simply allow you to make a journal public/password protected so anyone can view it). Those are long wished for/promised features that would make my workflow even simpler. Finally, I still experience typing lag issues on both my iPhone and iPad pro. I type long entries, so generally use Drafts 4 and then import the text. These typing bugs have persisted for quite awhile. Pretty minor overall and may only affect longer entries or entries with a lot of photos.
  • Best Journaling Option Available

I can’t say it enough. Day One is the best journaling option you’ll find. It’s secure, backs up to iCloud, allows for multiple journals, stores photos, and it’s just so convenient. You really cannot go wrong using Day One.

I like it , the best!
  • I assume the subscription model is to pay for all the fake positive reviews?

You can cut/paste “we are a small self-funded team” over and over and again it will not make a dent in the distrust many feel over your business ethics. Dropbox and iCloud sync worked fine, there are going to be occasional hiccups with any of these services, but they function and are far more secure than anything you could muster even with subscription revenue. You lie over and over, wring your hands and declare that we had no choice! We had to do this for your benefit, you weren’t safe before! It was not to our benefit at all. You had multiple solutions that worked and you removed them to create both a justification for your subscription model as well as taking complete control over our sensitive data, which you have proven you are more than willing to hold hostage for a buck. I understand needing to make a living, and there were multiple ways your company could have gone. You could have offered in app purchases for new features, you could have have offered a “Pro” service that gave people more options for a subscription while maintaining the bare bones for those who gave your business it’s earliest legs. Instead you took away what they once had. You can say “No, you can always use the older version as long as you want”, yet in the same breath (or a bad review response) you remind us that one day that version will die along with our aging iOS. You aren’t offering a solution or a choice, you are offering a prolonged slow death so that a person nearing the obsolescence of his deepest thoughts will have to face the reality of either paying for your extortion or losing everything they once trusted you with. You dangle people’s precious memories and heartbreak like a carrot. You like your journal, right? Then you will have to pay and pay and pay again. That is why we find your responses canned and disingenuous, this is why I will never give another dollar to your service. I hope others follow suit. Response to Developers Response: Yes, two years of development for a product that does mostly the same, only now you control the data entirely and have to pay for banks of servers and storage to handle what was not a problem before (Dropbox and iCloud sync). You created a problem to justify needing more overhead, therefore needing a constant revenue stream. Brilliant. Also, don’t blame or punish your customers for the business model you originally created. Not good form. You are a journal app. You are not Adobe or Microsoft. I have choices. Goodbye.
  • This is a Rip Off Now!!!

Was a Great App b4 it went subscription base, now i have less features,mY sync was taken away, i get & add 4 their subscription service popping up every-time i do a function thats simply annoying. U get none of the old features unless U pay their high subscription rate. Such a rip off now, they gave nothing bac 2 the user, like myself who paid 4 their App n the beginning! i will leave this App & go over 2 the App Collect & Journal through pictures! i wish i would hav save mY money & never started with this App!!! Such a RIP OFF now!!! Zero Stars!!!
  • Forced to use their creepy cloud

    By Kurt880
Not only are we now forced to use their cloud so they can mine and harvest our data, but we are also forced to pay for it?!?!? Like they don’t sign a copy of our data with their own private key so they can snoop on our “encrypted” data. Absolute privacy theatre! Creepier than Facebook!!

I’ve been with DayOne since it’s first appearance in the App Store. Over the years I’ve been adding journal entries and this app keeps my entries looking fresh. Happy to have bought into not just Plus, but Premium. Can’t wait to organize and add to my 2018 journal. Thanks DayOne!!
  • Really excellent, only two requests...

    By Adamcikb
Excellent app. Have used it for several years, now a Premium subscriber with sixteen journals. Most importantly, it has evolved for me as a writing tool as well as a journal. I have journal for a diary, but also one for drafting blog posts, one for drafting Facebook posts, one for drafting political commentary such as op-ed’s, one for draft poems, etc. the way it dates entries makes it extremely useful in this regard. In that vein, I have two requests for improvements: (1) Folders, folders, folders. With folders, I could easily create separate journals within a journal. So, for example, I could have a sub journal ideas, one for articles in development, one for finished or published articles, and an archive sub journal for old drafts I’ve given up on but don’t want to toss. Again, folders please...(or “subjournals” or whatever). (2) Better keyboard. Most importantly, add cursor control. I’d suggest emulating the keyboard in iAWriter. It’s the best out there, IMHO. THANKS FOR A GREAT APP!
