  • This app is awesome!!

    By Canada Laura
Great for that book you’ve always wanted to read but felt like you don’t have the time. Awesome value. I use Instaread while taking public transit and I’m so glad I found it ☺️
  • Poorly developed app Don’t Buy!!!

    By Krage93
I must be honest I don’t like this app. It’s way overpriced for what it delivers. Very few book choices and the overviews have a lot of irrelevant information. Then I got my what I thought was a month to month subscription and it was charged as a yearly subscription all at once. Again not worth the money!!!!
  • Feeling Mislead!

    By Travel112488
I signed up for the free trial to test the trial out, and a few hours later I get an email from Apple telling me that I got charged $90 for the freaking yearly subscription 😡🤬!!! Please help me get a refund!! I haven’t even had a chance to really even try out the app yet. I feel scammed and mislead.
  • Cancel

If you want to cancel, you can’t because there is no where to let the company know what you want to do.
  • Amazing quality content!

    By Ryan from RI
High quality audio books, I use it every day!
  • Speed control

    By Tiberius Shatner
I used to love this app, the summaries are really good but they read it relatively slow so I used to listen to them at a higher speed. In the latest update I see that the functionality has been removed! Please add it back
  • What a bad app

    By Yummycrunch
The deducted my payment, but I can’t access anything. There is really nothing here I could not get from a review of the book, bad idea
  • Fantastic. Love it. Keep up the good work. Love it!!!

  • “Instaread” = “a critic’s opinion on a book” (Deep bias)

    By Brotherjamesmusic
I liked the idea of this app. I was excited to keep up with all the modern books I *should* read to stay current, while saving my reading time and money for classic books that have stood the test of time. The “Instareads” (better referred to as “book reviews”) definitely offered an opinion on current books.. which I could’ve found on amazon. Rarely did I actually get a good understanding of a book, though I’ll admit that a few seemed to offer that (but how am I to know if I haven’t read the book). The last 2 books (after listening to about about 10) that finally tipped me off of this app were Driven to Distraction and Tribe of Mentors. Driven to Distraction is a book that I’ve read parts of to understand my (clinically diagnosed) ADHD. From my read of the text, the author is very firm in asserting that ADHD is misunderstood, that medication is not always the answer, that other forms of treatment (habit management, healthy and helpful relationships, exercise, etc.) are much more important in managing ADHD, BUT that we shouldn’t be afraid of medication. He fights hard against the reigning beliefs and stigma especially prevalent in the 90’s that “we all have ADHD” and “those kids are just misbehaved or had bad parents” and “medication is dangerous and admits weakness”. He’s very concerned with making it clear that ADHD is a very real disease that must be understood and managed well. The Instaread review makes sure to balance out the author’s opinion with their belief that ADHD is often just a mask we put over bad parenting or other such and that medication is highly over-prescribed. They pull in statistics from elsewhere and make claims that the book never did. This is a pattern I noticed in many books.. and I wasn’t all that concerned usually because it seemed somewhat minimal.. but again how am I to know if it’s minimal for books I haven’t read? Finally I listened to Tribe of Mentors. This one was just blatant in its disagreements with the author. It was really more of a scathing review than a summary. Every “key takeaway” started with the author’s opinion and ended with the instareader’s “facts” about why the author or their interviewees are wrong. The pinnacle was at moments like “this of course is demonstrably false because..” or “this is a faulty belief commonly held by [insert political party]..” etc. as a follow up to the author’s key points. Interestingly enough, I probably would have agreed with much of what this Instaread reviewer had to say if I had read the book myself, because I just happen to be generally on his side of the political aisle. But I don’t want the Instareader’s opinion. I want an outline and summary of the book, so that I can choose to disagree with the author myself. I’m here to get the summarized opinions of best-selling authors, not rando “professionals”. I didn’t download the app looking for book reviews, I downloaded it under the guise that it would provide well-crafted concise versions of popular books. Here’s hoping the app will begin providing that, or another app will. In the meantime, I’ll go ahead and spend 15-30 minutes instead reading several amazon reviews (for get balanced perspective) to decide which books to buy and actually read. 1 star, plus a bonus star for a good idea for an app.
