Description

Introducing The Budget Bytes App, from cookbook author and winner of Saveur's Best How-To Food Blog in 2016, Beth Moncel. Beth has built a loyal following of millions of fans by delivering delicious recipes designed for small budgets on her blog www.budgetbytes.com. Now, she's put 500 of her most popular recipes into the Budget Bytes App, complete with step-by-step photography and voice guidance from Beth herself. She'll personally walk you through every recipe, right in your kitchen. Cooking on a budget shouldn't mean canned beans and ramen noodles night after night. Welcome to the world of delicious recipes designed for small budgets. Beth adds, "I’ve partnered with the tech-savvy team at SideChef to bring you an easy to use app packed with more features than I could have imagined. It’s like an interactive and customizable cookbook with my voice coaching you through each recipe! Cool, right??" Why am I so excited about this app? Well, let me just list a few of the super cool things it can do… -Deliver the recipes you love faster and easier without waiting for a website (or annoying ads) to load. Plus, save recipes to personal “cookbooks” to access your favorites even faster. -Filter recipes by price to get recipes that are the best fit for your budget. -Adjustable serving sizes let you cook the amount that you want and reduce food waste. -Access how-to technique videos right in the instructions so you can cook with extra confidence. -Cook with me, in real time! We wanted to make this app extra personal, so you’ll have my voice giving you step-by-step instructions as you cook.

I love this website and I was super excited to buy the app. I’m disappointed that now you have to earn credits to unlock bonus recipes. I already paid for the app, I shouldn’t have to pay additional money to get access to recipes! I’m really disappointed B.B. decided to take advantage of their subscribers and try to milk them for their money. Not very budget friendly after all.
  • Great App, But Hate Micro Transactions

This app is beautiful and a great way to see all of the wonderful recipes that are offered. I happily paid the $3 for the app (and bought the cookbook). However, this whole business of micro transactions makes me feel incredibly frustrated. It's demoralizing to feel like you are being squeezed for all of the money they can get out of you, particularly for recipes that are already free on the website. I enjoyed the app, but will not be using it anymore. I will stick to using the website.

I happily paid for the app because I loved the idea of an easy way to access the recipes I love, but now I have to buy the recipes too?!?!?! No thanks.
  • Nope. Bait and Switch on a paid app

I’ve already purchased your app and all was well. The new update requires “credits” to unlock recipes now? Taking some notes from EA regarding micro transactions I see. Used to love the app but now I can’t recommend with this nonsense.

I bought this app when it was first released, because I’d been using the website for years. I understand a lot of work has gone into it, but I feel like consumers should have been told upfront that we’d have to pay for more features. I would have paid more money upfront rather than open an app everyday or buy credits. Honestly, I think it’s shady. Be upfront about your business model.
  • Very disappointed

I have really loved budget bytes (starting with the blog) for a long time. I very very rarely pay for apps, but did so for convenience and to support Beth. But having to pay for the app and then pay more for features? Come on. If it's going to be an in app purchase design the app needs to be free. A decent app overall, but not worth it since I can't access the recipes without paying.
  • Well done!

I love the way this app is put together, and I use Budget Bytes recipes aaaalllllll the time. I actually like the way you can earn credits for more content as well. The 500 recipes are welllll worth the 2.99 the app costs, and I applaud Beth and the creators for having ways to earn access to more content rather than just straight up charging.
  • Buy app then pay for credits to buy recipes

Update is kind of a bummer. I loved this app. Now it feels a little like being nickel and dimed. I get they put a lot of work into this app and they are continuously working on it but I don’t think it warrants the high cost especially when there are so many other options.
  • Bad idea!

I agree with the previous reviewer about the new update. I bought the app with the understanding that new recipes were to be added. There was no mention of having to buy the new recipes. I have previously recommended this app but I will no longer do so. That information should have been disclosed prior to my purchase of the app.
  • Wait, paying AGAIN? BAD. NO LONGER RECOMMEND

So I paid for your app, and now I'm told with this latest update that I need to do more signing up... and then I will have to "earn credits" or pay additional money, for other recipes? Not EVER gonna happen--I refuse to pay twice or allow myself to be sucked into micropayments or some pseudo subscription scheme. I bought this to help feed my family. I didn't buy it to play any sort of game for "credits". You also apparently wiped ALL my marked favorites. I will NOT sign up for fluff like stalking "my favorite chefs". But your search isn't working either. Maybe you want me to pay a little more for working and usable search functionality now, too? You've taken key functionality away, when I PAID FOR THIS ALREADY. I am NOT happy. I hope you reconsider this cash-grab move; the recipes I've tried have been pretty good, but let's be real for a second: I could get recipes from so many other places, too. And I will, if this app is keeps turning into a portal for nickel-and-dining it's users to death. It's a shame to see a good thing like this go so bad.
