Extremely disappointed in my purchase. Waste of $. App is not searchable. Can’t export to PDF which would be searchable.
  • Why Apple’s Family Sharing doesn’t work?

I became a card-carrying USA Softball umpire this winter and have purchased this Official Rules app on my iPad. I now want to install the app on my iPhone, and “download” is not an option, even though my iPhone account is in a Family Sharing group with the family master account (the one I used to buy the Official Rules app on my iPad). The only option available on my iPhone is to purchase the app for another $14.99. I should be able to download it, just as I do with other apps in my family sharing setup.
  • Crashes Constantly, Frustratingly Useless

The 2018 Rules app should be very straightforward. All it does is digitize printed rules. So it’s main improvement over a printed book should be the ability to search for terms. But it fails in this simple task. First the search only works within a chapter. The problem with this is there are often rules that are cited across different chapters so the search for any term will be incomplete. Second attempting to do searches in later chapters is almost impossible because the app shuts down before completing a word to search. This happens every time. It also happens in early chapters with too many word searches. Finally in an attempt to keep the same visual look of the printed book, indented paragraphs are hard to read on an iPhone. All these problems were present in the 2017 book but I gave that a pass because it was the first year for the new application. But 2018 is just as bad and for an app that costs $15 is inexcusable. And no it isn’t an old iOS or too many apps open or older iPhone. It’s the app. Fix it! Call the NFHS and license their software. It’s so much more stable, has excellent functionality AND allows multiple books so maybe USA Softball will finally print all its case plays like the NFHS does instead of forcing umpires to click on endless monthly clarifications.
