  • Incompetence at its best. Stay away

    By Anijake
Please do not waist your time with this app. The level on incompetence of this company is just unbelievable. Let me explain how just one part of this app is programed and you will get the idea. Podcasts. Like most people you may already have a podcast app and want to switch/try Plex as you new podcast app so you import OPML full of your subscriptions, great maybe it imported all of them maybe it didn’t, it will not tell you which ones it could not do. Then maybe you want to download some episodes to your device to play when on the subway or on a airplane, when you have no connectivity. You have the option to “Keep” a number of latest episodes or next episodes, great I set that for one of my shows, BUT WAIT! There is no universal option to set this option for all shows at once, YOU HAVE TO DO THIS MUITI STEP PROCESS FOR EVERY SHOW! Thats right if you have 30, 40, 50 shows you have to set the download options (how many to sync and how long to keep on your device) FOR EVERY SHOW. But wait it gets better! They tout about playing podcasts and keeping sync on every device. So if you also have a tablet and want to download the same shows on each device you have to do the SAME PROCESS on EVERY DEVICE. But wait! It gets better again! Not only do you have to set the download options for every show on every device you have to set the play order for every show on every device! If you are new to a podcast you may want to start at the beginning and play “oldest” first (Serial for example), and if its news podcast (NPR), you might want to play the “newest” first. Again has to be set FOR EVERY SHOW on EVERY DEVICE. There is no way to select multiple shows and make the setting for a few at a time, nope ONE BY ONE. But lets say you finally get it all set they way you want. You let your device start downloading your unplayed episodes, well keep your fingers crossed because you would be very lucky if the process completes. I have tried many times and almost never had a complete download of my podcasts. BUT WAIT! One last warning. After spending my time setting all the options for over 50 podcasts, ( set to download the “latest 3” episodes, and to “keep played” for one day) and set the order of how to play and download. ALL THE SETTINGS DISAPPEARED! Thats right gone. Since the episodes would get stuck downloading and the spinner would just spin and spin, I closed the app (task switcher, slide up) and reopened that app. I watched the progress bar go to complete and I thought al was well until I was offline and went to see if all the episodes were there and guess what? THEY WERE NOT. Went to look at my settings and they WERE ALL GONE. That is just the story of how just one section of this app is programed so badly you have to wonder how much programing experience the people over at Plex have. Maybe my next review will document how other parts of this app, PAID PARTS, are just as bad if not worse..
  • Profoundly Frustrating

    By 1337p0k3r
Someone shared a plex server with me so i got this app. This has to be the most frustrating ui in the app store. If Voldemort really didn't want Harry Potter to find the horcrux, he should have put in this app.
  • Fantastic! Fantastic! (One feature I want)

    By bennybaconburger
I absolutely love being able to watch movies from my own media server. Plex makes it a seamless experience. The only feature I would want is being able to sync only a portion of certain chapters or specific time range of a movie. I am typically watching only about 30 minutes of the media offline. I feel like it would be beneficial to have this feature mostly if I don't have a lot of time to wait for the transcode. I'll restate, there is no other media server that can compete with Plex.
  • Love the new update!

    By FreekieGeekie
Loving the new update Plex made for the iOS, tvOS and PlayStation 4. Haven’t yet seen the new update for my Samsung Smart TV, but I won’t doubt it looks very similar. The whole new experience is dope and you guys fixed the AirPlay issue so now I can cast to PS4 and tv more streamlined than ever before, as well as the entire software. This update is really good. Five stars Plex. Keep up with the maintenance.
  • Quit wasting time with useless features and fix the bugs.

    By Name675
The DVR remains an undependable mess while Plex screws around with fringe features no one cares about. Dump the podcasts. Dump the news. Dump the web shows. Smartphones already come with music apps. Focus on the reason people use Plex: watch TV and movies.
  • Plex = the best.

    By You-asked-for-it
    Plex is amazing. The end.
  • Pretty good, when it works

Overly complicated. Very buggy. Features touted don’t always work. Inconsistent at best. Air video which I had before this was easy to use and rock solid. If this only worked consistently with basic functionality it’d be fantastic and 5 stars. Lack of decent support lowers this to 2 stars. Probably better options out there but they already have my money. Disappointing.
  • Navigation amongst different device player

Difficult to create a standard look to find content. Drives my wife. Crazy. Any help out there?
  • Can’t stream without purchase

    By Panda Drew
You can’t watch any of your content without paying $5 once per device or getting the “Premium” pass for $5 a month forever.
