  • Fun and easy education app

I’m loving learning a new language and reviewing one I studied in high school. I love that the time commitment is minimal but the subject matter is accessible but challenging.
  • Awesome app

Very easy to use. I love it :)
  • Recording could be more accurate

The app is good for practice and has helped me with reading and writing, but I get frustrated at the speaking portion. Sometimes it says correct when I know I’ve said it wrong. Other times it says “let’s skip this one for now”, no matter how clearly I’ve spoken the phrase.
  • Time for Dead Languages

Duolingo is an awesome app, my whole family uses it. The only grief I've had with it is that they go through the trouble of including fake languages from fantasy and Star Trek, but they don't include languages like Latin. I think that is the next step for Duolingo. I just hope they see this and add a few dead languages (hopefully including Latin.)
  • Amazing!

This app is exceptional. The repetition is great. It's easy and fun!
  • only useful for practice, not learning

Apparently the website has additional information on grammar and usage, but the app itself has none. So it’s okay for review, but useless for actually learning a language. This is especially true for Japanese, which introduces lots of grammar without any explanation at all. I’m currently working through Italian, but only using this as a supplement to a different actual course. To call these "courses" though is very misleading; this is really just a review tool for those who already know something about the language.
  • My Favorite App Ever!!

Duolingo is my favorite app of all. I love the design of the app, and the way it encourages progress every day. Since each lesson is split into sections, doing one section per day became a reasonable goal I could maintain for months. I also find that the short lessons fit well into waiting times that would otherwise be boring. (Waiting for the bus becomes language learning time!) The way the owl encourages users is great! The language clubs you can join are fun. I have made more progress learning languages on duolingo than I ever did in elementary school, high school and college language classes. Thank you duolingo! I can now speak Swedish and my "fluency rating" for Swedish is going up!! I hope some day that Swedish gets some of the extra features that Spanish has in the app. Particularly the chat bots. I think those are helpful for learning conversational language. I really hope this app stays free! One thing that could be improved: I liked duolingo better before they added the health meter. Punishment for getting words wrong doesn’t seem like a good way to go, and it discourages completing multiple lessons in one day. There are still ways to work around it, but I don’t think it is helpful.
  • Well done! Bone farita!

I'm very impressed with this app. I downloaded it to start learning Esperanto and ended up brushing up on the other languages as well. I study 9 languages and I find this app a good way to practice when you have waisted down time. I would love to see more languages added like Mandarin, Hindi, and Thai. It's hard to believe this is a free app. It's much better then many of the paid apps out there. Especially Excited to see the new Chinese addition.

An excellent way to learn a new language. Easy to use and fun. Love it!
  • Lacks relevancy

    By BusyBizBiz602
The program itself is great, but the vocabulary is stupid and not useful at all. If you want to learn how to converse in a language with useful phrases this is not it. The learning process works and the gamification makes it fun, but when am I ever going to use the words Buffalo and Megaphone in a regular conversation? Duolingo-please get real!
