I love Pillow. I find it easy to use, I think it’s great conceptually, and it has a beautiful interface. I really, really want to give it 5 stars, but I can’t. The main reason I can’t is because I don’t find its analyses accurate enough unfortunately. Last night I got up at least 3 times (that I can remember) to use the bathroom. My Apple Watch even measured steps for 4 separate occasions, but Pillow said I was awake only once. That’s disappointing since that seems like such a simple metric in Apple Health for Pillow to check to see if you’re awake and to include that data in its analyses. If Pillow can get a little more accurate, and maybe include better ability to manually adjust the a night’s analysis (both for tracking sake and so the AI can learn more accurately), Pillow would most certainly be 5 stars. I do want to say though, that I paid for the premium version, and I stand behind that purchase. Pillow is still very helpful in keeping track of when you’re going to sleep and waking up, and I think does a good job showing more generally whether you got good sleep or bad sleep. So although I haven’t found Pillow to be super accurate, I still find the app valuable and worth $5, especially for someone who has trouble sleeping and would like to track and learn a little more about their own sleep life.
  • Auto mode seems inaccurate

I have been using Pillow for close to a year and when I saw the latest update included auto tracking for sleep I was glad that i would no longer need to remember to press the ‘start’ button every time I went to bed. Unfortunately the auto tracking seems wildly inaccurate. Before, the app would know if I was awake during the night or got up to pee, but now it just thinks I’ve slept through and had a great nights sleep. I’ve had to turn the auto feature off to get a more faithful interpretation of my sleep patterns. Hopefully it will improve in future updates.

The new update is so great I just had to leave a review. Automatic sleep detection works flawlessly and I could even find days where I forgot to turn on sleep tracking but still wore my watch to bed and retroactively get sleep stats for those days! The new UI is lovely as well, absolutely fantastic work by the devs. One thing I wanted to suggest is a button that could loop through all the days where sleep sessions weren’t recorded to automatically see if sessions could be recovered. It could go back to a reasonable date such as a year from now or something. Update: the notification feature doesn’t seem to be working reliably. I’ve set it to notify me after 8am every morning on the sleep analysis result, but I’ve only ever seen it once. This means I have to keep launching the app every morning to make sure no data was lost. It would be perfect once this is fixed!
  • Re-Rate: From 4 Stars-5 Stars!!

I have had this app for quite some time. When I have used it with just my iPhone 7+, it has always given detailed info about my sleep, what type of person I am- night owl. It made me pay attention to how much sleep “wasn’t getting” and the quality of my sleep. All of this info is especially important for me because of health issues. The *only reason for 4 stars the first time was because I knew it’s not ideal or recommended to put your cell phone under pillows or next to them, in/under bedding. But that was solved when I got my Apple Watch!!! In fact it allowed me to skip setting up Pillow for bedtime. Now I literally just touch the Pillow icon on my watch, “Start” (in bed) and “Stop” when I wake up!! That’s it!! And now the new “Automatic” update, which is still working out the small kinks, is already better than other sleep apps that use being “Automatic” as their main bait for being more useful. It was rocky when I first used Automatic instead of manual, but just like the first time I used Pillow, you have to give it time to train itself to read your details, your habits. But in the end, I now get 3x’s the info and more details about my sleep WITHOUT PRESSING A BUTTON!!!! (For free)!! THANK Y’ALL, Pillow!!!

Can’t set an alarm, can’t put into sleep mode, can’t do anything with the new update. What the hell?? Update: Thank you for the response. When doing such an update, information like this would be helpful when the app loads after first updating.

Wish app worked when in airplane mode. As a sleep app, it should auto monitor without starting snd stopping app.
